Merriewood is very fortunate to have a half acre enclosed organic garden on campus. The children plant, tend and harvest a variety of seasonal crops. Students are encouraged to create and prepare recipes in our garden kitchen using freshly picked vegetables, fruits and eggs from our hens.
Children also have the opportunity to engage in a variety of arts and crafts as well as fort building.
“The children and nature movement is fueled by this fundamental idea: the child in nature is an endangered species, and the health of children and the health of the Earth are inseparable.” Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods.
