We believe that human growth is a developmental process involving physical, cognitive, social, and emotional aspects. A child emotionally grows best in an environments where they can learn to trust adults, themselves, and other. They learn to become independent when they are given many opportunities to make choices. Respect for each other, and responsibility for behavior are developed in a caring atmosphere, with secure limits and positive interactions with adults.Supported interaction between typical and differently abled children and adults allow each to learn more about the other, and accept their sameness and differences. Cognitive development is enhanced when there are many stimulating activities to explore and experiment within both large and small groups. Physical aspects are developed in activities that involve both large and small motor skills.
Merriewood Children’s Center provides child centered programs that enhance this growth by providing a variety of stimulating activities designed to meet the individual needs of it’s children. Experiences with art, drama, music, science, building, cooking, stories, and movement are among the many activities offered. The special talents of the staff will ensure each child their own place in the group. Merriewood accepts children without regard to race, color, creed, or sex.
